A Review of "Don't Breathe"

Don't Breathe is a film written by Rodo Sayagues and directed by Fede Alvarez originally released in Italy. The film begins with three teenagers, Alex, Rocky, and Money, robbing a house seemingly perfectly, then going out of their way to trip the alarm. The three go in and gather anything they like as long as it's not cash. That only benefits Raul, their handler, who gets them their jobs and their money, which is hardly enough to scrape the bottom of the barrel. After Money threatens to quit, Raul suggests that they hit a house with some actual dough. 300, 000 dollars worth. The house is of an old man who acquired the cash as settlement after his young daughter was killed by a speeding car. The trio go to scoop out the place and find that the old man is blind. Even so, they are not deterred from their mission. The following night they infiltrate the house. Little did they know that this old blind man was a retired war veteran who's other senses that have increased dramatically and is not fond of intruders. As they are hunted through the heavily secured house, they must decide if the cash is still worth it or to escape immediately through the cellar. But what they find in the basement will not ever leave them.

I found the film very interesting. It wasn't as much of a horror film as it was an intense thriller. Although, the trio was our protagonist, I was not on their team. At least not for the first 20 minutes. I rated it 78. I really enjoyed the film but some scenes were a little, no, a lot,  disturbing. What the man keeps in his basement is hardly okay but almost understandable until we find he's doing with it. Then all sympathy fly out the window. I suggest the movie to anyone who wants to be sitting on the edge of their seats the entire film. However, please be of age because it is rated R.

Trailer.
